A Little Glimpse of Light

While working on the two e.p.s over the summer Dippin' Into The Blues and Is This The World We Created, I was still writing other songs that would become the album A Little Glimpse of Light.

Lots of people have asked where the front cover image was taken from!  A beach in Spain, Italy, South of France?  No, it's Ayr Beach in Scotland just as the Sun was setting on a beautiful summers day in 2017.  The picture was taken by my son Sam.  I like this picture as at first glance you can't tell if I'm facing you or looking away!

On this CD I started experimenting with drum sounds and tried to make it a little more than just me and my guitar...

Just Ramblin' - Exactly what it says on the tin..I am literally just rambling and talking nonsense!!  that's it no magic formula here;-)People Are Waiting - Another 'protest' song about governments and corruption happening all around us today.  I used a drum backing track on this one so its' guitar and drum, but looking back now I should have put some bass on there too to 'thicken' it out a bitEverybody Wants To Be Somebody (They're Not) - This upbeat tune is inspired buy early Neil Diamond tracks like I'm a Believer, Cherry Cherry, Kentucky Woman... it's the story of us all..are we happy with who we are or do we all want to be a bit of someone else?  I'd like to be Bruce Springsteen ;-)  or Neil Diamond!! ;-) but in the end we should all be happy with who we are, because we are all individual (no don't start with the Monty Python replies!!)The Busker - A song about a Busker on the street of Edinburgh, a nice mellow easy rack to play on guitar if you'd like to know how check out my tutorial on YouTube. I mention 2 Edinburgh Streets in this song, but wherever you live, if you were playing it on your guitar, you can pop your own street names in there!!All You Know - I used an app on my iPad for the drums on this track!  just playing along to the acoustic track I had already recorded.  It's about people, about their ideas, about how someone can have a simple idea that can change the world overnight..She's My Dream - another song about my wife...simple as that;-)Messages - This song is about the messages we receive throughout our lives from the past.  When you return say to your hometown if you moved away years ago and images and memories come flooding back in, and it's also about those people who are no longer around from those memories.  The beat in the background again was from an iPad app, a snare drum on a hip hop drum set up slowed down a bit!  I liked how it echoed as though coming or going from a distance like in the past...We'll Catch The Next Bus - When  I was young we didn't have the luxury of a family car to drive around in, so it was buses for us...well I say buses,  but it usually just meant we were walking!  This song is dedicated to my mum, we used to visit my grandparents every weekend, we' would go from Rutherglen in Glasgow to the Gorbals in Glasgow, but somehow she always managed to get us to walk the 4 - 5 miles and miss every bus that went past ;-) when I shared this with family my aunts/uncles had a good laugh as they always remembered my sisters and myself moaning about having had to walk..Looking For Answers - This was inspired by a CBBC programme called The Dumping Ground!!  My youngest daughter watches it non stop when it's on, it's about a children's home, and so the story of this song is of children in a home and what chances they have in life for their futures.A Little Glimpse of Light - A song about that little glimpse of light in all of our souls, about seeing who we really are without all the 'masks' It's also again about my wife ;-) and how she can see the glimpse of light in my soul...Time To Recognise - A song about recognising who you are and where you are going in life.Take It In My Stride - Based on my walks home from the pub late at night in Edinburgh back in the 90's when I moved there..should have changed the chords as the chorus is way to high for my voice;-)
