Mark McCafferty Music...#RusticFolkMusic..

Welcome,

In 2016, after many years strumming away on various guitars (I'm a strummer pure and simple, no Eddie Van Halen solos for me!!) and writing songs in notebooks, on scraps of paper, then eventually in word or other mobile apps I decided that maybe I should record these!!

I did start recording some songs back in 1994 on a Tascam 4 track recorder, while living down in the Leith area of Edinburgh, I still have those on some C45/C90 cassette tapes!! (look it up if your too young to know what I'm on about) and maybe I'll get them listened too again and re recorded - need to find a cassette player first though;-)

Since 1994, I've got married, had children and life has changed, and this is what inspired me to start recording the songs I had lying around the place.  Plus recording at home now was much easier!!  with free software like, Audacity, Garage Band and the various other options...

My Dad passed away when I was 8 years old due to heart trouble, he was a BIG Elvis fan and I grew up with Elvis playing constantly in the back ground.  This is sort of what made me start doing the recordings.

I know my Dad was an Elvis fan, but apart from that, who was he really?  I don't know!  I don't have anything with his voice on it or lyrics he's written or videos of him.. (Nowadays much easier to keep someone who's gone part of your life with technology, but back in 1978, unless you were well off, you weren't going to have a video camera lying around)

So for my children I wanted to leave them something that is just me, my ideas, my lyrics, my music.  So when I'm long gone, they will still have a part of me in their lives, and their children's' lives and so on..you never know, one day one of these songs might make some money for them;-)

They aren't produced and mixed in some fancy studio by some big producer, are they more like demos, yes probably, I like to call it Rustic Folk Music...but they are honest, simple and now they are there in my children's lives forever...(even if they just moan at the moment "oh no not another album"!!)

So there's the reason I've started recoding these songs, and now, I thought I'd do a blog and for each album/track give a little background as to what they are, why I wrote them..in case anyones interested...

so look out for the album blogs coming right up...
